  32.     I am sceptical.   The significance of HT (the character)
  33.     in PRE (the element) is to go to the "next" tab stop
  34.     after the current position.
  35.     If you don't know the relative font sizes, you can't predict
  36.     where you will be, and so what the next stop will be.
  37.     Any tabbing arrangement which allows variable width
  38.     characters must therefore change the significance to
  39.     "go to the left most tab stop you haven't used so far"
  40.     and wrap the text when it reaches a tab stop by itself.
  41.     Now we have tables.  And when we have tables, we will need
  42.     lines in them of various types, and column headings and
  43.     things.  And it will be good but it won't be tabs.

  60.     free SGML whose justification we also all know.
